Summary/Abstract: The study has shown children’s characteristic egocentric difficulties with spatial situations requiring objectivization, decentration, and mentally inverting transformations or relations. The tasks concerned identifying left and right side (of the subject or of a third person), position of an object (to the right or to the left of a person), direction (moving to the left or right of a place), left and right turns. The objects were variously situated with respect to the subject. For each task the children’s responses were described in terms of one of three levels: low, intermediate, high. Some children spontaneously helped themselves by imagining that they were carrying out the move in question or by actually carrying it out.
