Summary/Abstract: Financial crisis in Iceland, involving excessive and uncontrolled growth of the banking sector, exhibited the weakness of the controlling agencies, including the Central Bank of Iceland (CBI). This paper critically analyses the privatization of Icelandic banking sector, its irregularities and causes of the economic breakdown, which took place in October, 2008.
