Summary/Abstract: Likert scales belong to often used research techniques in the researches focused on education. Because of this fact, the study is focused on the presentation of using and evaluation of Likert scales. The first part of the text provides the basic information about this type of scales, their creation and using. The second and third part are crucial, at first the approaches are characterized according to their understanding, then according to the type of variables that are considered by specific authors there were created two groups ordinalists and intervalists. There are described reasons which are presented by specific authors and these reasons explain why the selected approach is valid. The text opts for the view of so called intervalists that is described in the third chapter, in which there are listed ten most widespread misconceptions occurring in the creating and using Likert scales and also in the data analysis produced by the scales. Each misconception contains brief justification, whose role is to contradict to the misconception. The conclusion summarizes the presenting text.
