Summary/Abstract: After systematizing the natural-history concepts presented in Exarch’s Hexameron, we find that the facts about the plants and the animals are translated mainly from the analogous work of Basil the Great; the facts about the rivers and some meteorological phenomena – from the Hexameron of Severianus of Gaval; and those about the heavenly bodies and man – from Aristotle. It is interesting to note the almost complete textual coincidence of some passages from Exarch’s Hexameron and the Dialogues of Pseudo-Kesarius, the poetic description of the calm sea, the presentation and the refutation of some astrological notions, the argumentation about the Earth-water basin, etc.
