To the Question the Slavs of Bithynia

Summary/Abstract: Thanks to the efforts of researchers from different countries, considerable headway has been made in the last two or three decades in the study of the problem of the spread of the Slavs on the territory of Byzantium and their gradual integration (outside Bulgaria and the Serbian principalities) into the composition of the subjects of the Empire. In this article the author makes an attempt to correct the hypothesis of N. Oikonomidès, supported also by other scholars, about the fate of the Slav population in Bithynia in the 7th с. during the so-called “giant sale of Slav slaves in 694/695”.
