Formation of the HDI in China in the years 1980–2013 as compared to other BRICS countries

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze changes in the Human Development Index in BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa in the years 1980–2013. This study shows the contribution of each component index since 1980 for all BRICS countries: life expectancy of birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling, gross national income per capita (PPP USD). The article presents HDI value and China’s place in the ranking of the BRICS countries – in 2013 and between 1980–2013.
