Summary/Abstract: In the article the author would like to be concerned with issues of the measurement of the level of economical and social development of Poland and other states of Central Europe, which became members of the European Union in 2004. The analysis covers the period 2004–2007. The Human Development Index (HDI) was used for the measurement of the development level.
