EVALUATION AND CLASSIFICATION CREATORS OF ARCHIVAL AND REGISTRY MATERIAL ON AREA OF STATE ARCHIVE IN OSIJEK

Summary/Abstract: Problems of evaluation of archival material and categorization of creators is one of the most complex and most responsible professional issues in the field of archival science. This important business the State Archives in Osijek began to devote significant attention just after the early 80's of 20th Century with passing the Ordinance on choosing and producing current records and the Guidelines on evaluation of current records. On the basis of these acts the first evaluation of registry material was done and proposals as well as categorization of creators was completed. Thanks to these procedures adequate system of protection of archival material has been established. Needs of the profession are ordered in modern time to adopt new documents related to the evaluation process and classified archives of the same creator. So at the level of Republic of Croatia, new Ordinance was enacted at 2002. on the evaluation and selection process and the elimination of spare archival material. The Code is composed of six chapters, and the same evaluation criteria has been established for all archival material, with periods of storage, the process of selection and elimination, and the method of destruction of spare material. This Ordinance is in force and in application and it gives results in terms of valuation and protection of archival material in the area of jurisdiction of the State Archives in Osijek.
