Summary/Abstract: Developing and Final Writings is a group of intriguing essays totally different from what we used to hear from Alexandru George. Published in 2002, in Târgoviște, the 250 pages offer themselves as an honest talk, as if the expected reader certainly accepts them, whichever their purpose could be. On the other hand, they might be registered as a monologue, the author seeming quite distant and on the verge to possess a sharp cut for the hidden details, so far. The short book is easily received by specialists and the common public, for the cristal clear message, the open mind and, most of all, the courage to approach delicate subjects. Some of the articles hint political matters, some others literary ones, most of them through the eyes and responsability of those who carried the burden of so-called hard sins, as seen by George, politicians and writers, as well. After 14 years, our perspective should benefit the response of the time passing by, thus, many unbelievable points of view finding their confirmation or disputing bitter rejection. In some aspects, our analyze might overcome the subjectivity Alexandru George himself overestimated, thus, turning into a judging process of the mind. Nevertheless, anyone should admit that readers everywhere have fans like this or that and will stand firmly for more or less surprisingly pen drawings of some famous people, such as George Călinescu (whom George never missed to criticize in his life, whenever he had the opportunity), Radu Petrescu, Mircea Cărtărescu, Andrei Pleșu or Gabriela Adameșteanu. What we really wonder about, after all, is why the author takes eveything so personally, what makes him react so plainfully and unforgivingly about those situations apparently of no true importance and why does he choose to have this intermezzo so late in his life and in such a diverse way he used to do before, giving up diplomacy, ellegance and balance...
