Summary/Abstract: The work A Detective Novel: „The Humpback Has an Alibiŗ presents some features of the detective novel. Its structure is a classical one, giving details of the logical course of events in which murders ceaselessly happen. Besides a compositional analysis of the novel, I also considered underlining the major themes belonging to Rodica Ojog- Brasoveanu: the main theme of murder, the theme of death and of the irreversible time, the duplication, the fascination of money and the obsession of jewellery. Elements of the detective novel, like the tension brought about by an enigma, the suspense, the mystery, the uncertainty and the astonishment of the characters after the murders and after the duplication of some characters are obvious in the analysis, the quotations from the book having a significant role. Although it seems a story that is hard to understand, with a discontinuous storyline, in which the actions shifts too quickly from a murder to another and from a suspect to others, at the end of the story the impressive thing is the answer to the questions: How can the Humpback keep their alibi? Who is the real Humpback or the serial killer?
