Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the basic characteristics of organized education of archivists in Hungary. The author gave a historical cross-section of the education system of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until the present day. In particular, it pointed to the fact that education of the archival staff for archival activities is extremely important part, and that this segment did not have sufficient attention. In recent years, the education process is carried out at the Department of auxiliary historical science, under the auspices of the University „Eötvös Lorand“ where archival science is studied as a profession. The educational level is Master (MA) and candidates receive the title of archivist. The goal of education of these professionals is to obtain archival, historical and IT knowledge to enable them to independently perform archivists activities, and to satisfy new needs set by the company.
