Summary/Abstract: The paper intends to describe an empirical case of positive deviance, i.e. the activity of the members of Polish opposition movements in the 1970s and 1980s. The example will be used to illustrate how the cultural foothold and the value orientation may become compounding factors of positive deviance. Moreover, the discussion is introduced about the social movement as a natural ground for practicing positive deviation and about ways in which the movement subculture will guide its fulfillment.
