Summary/Abstract: Effective information flow and exchange are among key factors affecting the success of a construction project in terms of time, cost and quality. Due to the intensive development and application of information technologies in the field of construction management, it is essential to define processed information unambiguously. The paper presents two concepts of classification systems – enumerative systems and faceted systems. The author introduces a short review and comparison of both systems. A concise discussion of benefits that result from the application of polyhierarchical systems in the construction cost analysis and a short calculation example are presented.
