Summary/Abstract: The aim of my research is to highlight the similarities and differences in the modernization process of the various communities in Ottoman Salonica. The article focuses on the change in the mentality of the small Bulgarian community in the city in the early 20th century. In this case I attempt to trace the ways in which the European cultural influence reaches the Bulgarians in the city and to outline the chronological framework of this process.
