Summary/Abstract: Effective operating of enterprise requires proper measurements in different fields of its activity, also in the field of quality management. It is important that the quality of products and processes should be recurrent, not changeable because only this form of quality enables improving actions. Capturing this repetition requires using appropriate measures. Quality costs are one of them. This term is a conventional one and it comes from quality engineering. At the beginning quality costs were related only to the production sphere. Nowadays they also concern the pre-production and post-production sphere. It needs looking at quality costs from customer’s side and superiority of preventive actions over the controlling ones. The process model of quality costs by Schneiderman represents this approach. Improving the quality is here connected with time in form of HML index. The example of selected motor enterprise in Lower Silesia shows that process approach taking time into consideration in preventive actions of quality costs is an effective approach.
