Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the problem of co-morbidity of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse disorders. The author presents a review of epidemiological studies and theoretical conceptualizations on co-occurrence of PTSD and alcohol and drug abuse or dependence. In addition, a review of studies which explore the nature of the relationship between PTSD and substance abuse disorders is presented.
