THE JOURNEYS OF STANISŁAW OSSOWSKI. THE WORLD IN THE EYES OF A SOCIOLOGIST

Summary/Abstract: The article is based on the unpublished diary of Prof. Stanisław Ossowski. His manuscript, including the texts written between 1905 and 1963, is stored in the library of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at Warsaw University. The article is written in the form of an analysis of entries included in the diary within the period of Ossowski’s worldwide travels, which included visiting France, Germany, Italy, England and the USA. The main focus is brought on the text concerning the central issues of Prof. Ossowski’s studies developed during the journeys. These entries reveal how within the years various factors such as World War II experience or witnessing the enforcement of communist rule resulted in his altered perception of the world.
