Summary/Abstract: This study presents the current stage of research on dwelling types, building materials and building techniques from Dudeşti, Boian and Gumelniţa Neolithic cultures in the central part of the Romanian Plain (Bucharest Plain). Analysis of dwellings considers: shape, dimensions, position, building technique and building materials. Pit-huts and surface dwellings are the main type of structures from the study area. Pit-huts are small features of oval, elongated-oval or rectangular rounded edge shape, sometimes with a hearth. The main surface dwelling type comprises: single room dwellings (the simplest and the most common), two room dwellings, outdoor improvement dwellings (most likely a porch improvement) and seasonal dwellings. There are no preferences for a certain type of dwelling for Neolithic communities. Research at Dudeşti ‘Malu Roşu’, Cernica ‘Mănăstirea Iezerul’, ‘Giuleşti- Sârbi’, Cernica ‘Tell Glina’ settlement indictaes that, generally, habitation started in pit-huts then continuinued in surface dwellings. Around dwellings different type of pits were identified: oval or circular shaped refuse pits or small post-holes for dwelling roofs. Clay, wood, tree branches, straw and sand were used to build dwellings, mainly using the wattle and daub technique.
