Summary/Abstract: From the Sophists and Up to now, the concept of manipulation was of a particular interest. This paper has as a major subject Marcus Tullius Cicero a famous orator, philosopher, moralist and statesman, epistolograf novel (103-43 a. Chr.), who warns us of the danger of manipulation by flattery in his moral treaty about friendship (De Amicitia). Thus it helps us to distinguish the virtue of "false opinion about virtue" true friend of the false friend, flatterer. Next, we show, however, that the orator’s brother, Quintus Tullius Cicero, flattery (blanditia) voters is a way to gain popularity and it is indispensable in an election campaign, as shown in the manual little campaign (Commentariolum petitionis) written in epistolary form. Also, with flattery, knowing the names of voters (nomenclatio) earnest propaganda (assiduitas), generosity (benignitas), good reputation (rumor) and Fast campaign (petitio pompae plena sit) are other methods necessary for a candidate who wishes to draw voters to his side.
