Summary/Abstract: Given the fact that a special emphasis is placed on intercultural relations nowadays, the herby paper has the main aim of providing an overview of the existential issue and good ethnic cohabitation in Transylvania helped by the work of the famous Transylvanian writer Erwin Wittstock, his work being an important part of the literature of German expression in Romania in the 20th century. The material and cultural achievements wrought by the Transylvanian ethnic groups, especially by the German one, have contributed to the development of a multicultural society which is to be seen in Transylvania today. The study presents Erwin Wittstock as a connoisseur of men, who looked into the soul of his characters and rendered the particularities of each ethnic group. His work is important not only because of the fidelity he presented the reality of the province he lived in, but also because of the objectivity used while rendering the events that took place on the Transylvanian ground. Wittstock's work is both a plea for tolerance and a call to humanity and understanding between peoples.
