Summary/Abstract: On the basis of a written survey involving subjects from both linguistic communities, this article attempts a comparison between the attitudes expressed towards linguistic Anglicization, and notably Anglicisms, by speakers of Bulgarian in Bulgaria and French speakers in France. While there exist many studies of the purely linguistic effects of the influence of English on these two languages, there is a lack of information on the attitudes of native speakers. Attitudinal studies are important, because they enable us to gauge not only the reasons why English continues to exercise such considerable influence, and to measure possible resistance to that influence, but they also enable us to attempt to anticipate future changes.
