Slavic Settlement in Macedonia and Siege of Thessaloniki

Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the middle ages, Europe was shaken by numerous barbarian attacks. The territory of Macedonia and the Balkan Peninsula ruled under the Byzantine Empire had been affected by the same wave of migrations and cruising of Euro-Asian tribes. One part of the great Slavic tribes whose homeland was Central and Eastern Europe in the early fifth century will begin occasional attacks and later gradually populating of the Balkan Peninsula. In this paper will be presented a brief history of the Slavic invasion to the territory of Macedonia, military-strategic organization, settlement of the tribes and the siege of Thessaloniki, observed by numerous byzantine authors in many books.
