Four Macedonian Cities in the Area Amfaksitida

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I will present the Macedonian cities in Amfaksitida. In V century BC, Amfaksitida field was constituted of old Macedonian area and it included the cities of Idomenae, Gordinija, Atalanta and Europa. The area of Amfaksitida was located in the lower or also called Macedonian seaside. Today this area is located in the region of Vardar, in archaeological sites: Isar Tower Valandovo, Isar-Marvinci and Vardar hill in Gevgelija. An exception is only the city Europ, located 24 km south of Gevgelija, in Greece. Located in the valley of river Axios or modern name Vardar, which incidentally was the main road link, connecting the upper Macedonia and Aegean Sea, city life and urbanization in the area developed very early and quickly.
