Summary/Abstract: The complicated image of the wood nymph or fairy (according to the folklore beliefs) has been examined in this report. The accent has been put onto nymph’s ability to cure or to provoke illness. The folklore short story “The wood nymphs and the hunchbacked one” has been analyzed, examples of some folk curing practices used against ‘the wood nymph’s illness’ were given, and their time and place was concretized. It has been shown also the possibility the wood nymph to have inherited some features of the superior female deity image from the heathen period. The idea was expressed that the wood nymph herself appearance could be closely connected with some definite crucial situation as well as her activities could be normally the regular result of overstepping the space-time bounds or the social norms.
