The Precedent Texts as a Source of Information About the Religious Beliefs of the Bulgarians

Summary/Abstract: The paper traces the reflection of religious notions of Bulgarians down the ages in Bulgarian paroemias. More than 6,000 proverbs from older and newer collections of folklore have been investigated. The semantic-conceptual characterization of the paroemias is made group by group, united by various concepts referring to the relevant segment of the spiritual culture of Bulgarians – Christian eschatology, hagiology, the church institution and its priests, religious holidays and rituals.
