Summary/Abstract: Zbikowski holds that music incorporates the supralinguistic, and is somewhat exceptional in its lack of an essential visual or proprioceptive component. van Gerwen contends that timbre, sound colour, and timing are of the essence for a musical work’s aesthetic success. Bicknell argues that a musical quotation can be distinguished from both coincidental similarities between works and plagiarism on the basis of intention.
