Summary/Abstract: The rush of commercial television stations for audience and publicity as well as media consumers’ unacknowledged craving for sensational news and facile entertainment creates a vicious circle in which serious information, profound analyses and cultural programmes no longer seem to be of interest. Nevertheless, people’s expectations are not in fact limited to whatever they watch on television. Media consumers are very much willing to find in the press information and analyses which could help them enrich their social and cultural knowledge. They expect to see and believe they can attain a certain level of political culture and political consciousness by watching analysts’ interventions during talk-shows which are becoming increasingly present in television grids. They attempt to see whether their own opinions about the political class members are confirmed or not by the elaborate outlook of the specialists in the field.
