The Vocabulary of the Sofia Prologue from the End of 12th – the Begginning of the 13th С

Summary/Abstract: In this paper the lexical particularities of the oldest known copy of the Prologue are discussed in several aspects. The first aspect is the comparison with the vocabulary of the Old Bulgarian manuscripts. In the second place the vocabulary of the Sofia prologue is described with respect to the phonetic differences between the Old Bulgarian and Old Russian languages. It is concluded that in this aspect the Sofia prologue reflects the norms of Russian Church-Slavonic literacy from the 12th–13th с In the third place 50 lexemes that are typical only for the Prologue are discussed. The analysis does not confirm the widespread oppinion for the existence of a lot of Russian lexemes that can be refered to the primary translation of the Prologue. The lexemes that are “russisms” are single and are typical only of this manuscript.
