Summary/Abstract: The contemporary maritime challenges have diversified and led to intensified security threats at sea thus reducing the capacity of the oceans to support the delivery of the benefits to the global society on which it depends Based on these realities, this article addresses the issue of global and regional maritime governance at the early 21st century. The article also examines the role that Euro-Atlantic institutions, EU and NATO play in managing global and regional maritime security issues.
