Summary/Abstract: In this paper I have analyzed an intriguing definition of law provided by the Romanian philosopher Eugeniu Sperantia (1888-1972). His background is eclectic, combining Platonic idealism, Kantian criticism with Darwinist features and intuitions from the vitalist philosophy. His vast background makes his juridical ethics hard to follow and to deconstruct. I have found, however, two key principles that construct the definition of law. Socialness (“socialitate” in Romanian) is the term that makes alterity significant for Sperantia. His praise of the cohesive norm (a concept ridiculed by structuralist anti-psychiatry) is the second term that configure the phenomenology of law.
