Summary/Abstract: This paper expounds on the findings of the research aimed to determine the attitude, opinions and experiences of teachers in their selection of a set of music textbooks. For the requirements of this research, an explorative questionnaire was devised, which was then applied to the sample of 298 teachers from 95 schools from different regions in Serbia. The findings showed that the largest number of teachers stated that the set of textbooks was selected by the school councils for junior school grades, as well as the school grade councils, whereas only a very small number of teachers got to select their set of textbooks on their own. When vocal development was the central issue determining their selection of a set of textbooks, the teachers mostly tended to see it as anoperationalized curriculum. The teachers mostly perceive that there is a problem in their choice of a set of textbooks in such circumstances when a textbook of their choice is used for a given grade, only to be superseded by another textbook which was neither their choice nor that of the grade council. Pedagogic guidelines for work are conducive to understanding the ways in which music textbooks have been selected in the past several years, aimed to improve teachers’ professional competence, which results in the improved quality of the music teaching process in general.
