Summary/Abstract: The sense of time is closely related to the way people conceive social ties and their own, personal destiny. As stated by Peirce, reality is related to community by the way people agree upon an opinion as it is true. The common definition of a true opinion, given by the common effort of all those who investigate, is the foundation of reality. And the conception of time is the essential framework for such an investigation. For a very long time, a common language or the reign of a monarch provided the common basis for tradition societies. Modernity has no longer those items as basis for the unity of the world. In fact, modernity has no more a certain basis for the common, shared understanding of the world, since it abandoned the traditional conception of time as continuous present. Additionally, the linear time that replaced the continuous present has been separated from its purpose, from its final victory which is redemption. With no eschatology, individuals are left alone and separated, with no solid community ties, into an infinite, obsessive, empty time.
