Summary/Abstract: In this article Wołowiec contests the prevalent reading of Artur Domosławski’s biography Kapuściński non-fiction. Rather than aiming to disgrace the famous reporter, Wołowiec argues, Domosławski’s reflection on the life and work of Ryszard Kapuściński forms a starting point for a sincere critical revision of a left-wing ideological tradition that is shared by Kapuściński and Domosławski, and that the latter also considers relevant to today’s leftist ideologies. According to Wołowiec, even the passages that numerous readers have found particularly controversial – i.e. descriptions of writer’s personal life and his strategy as a reporter – are indispensable to this revision. Wołowiec considers the reception of Domosławski’s work to be symptomatic of pathologies in Polish discourse of coming to terms with the legacy of communist era.
