Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the neural correlates of lexical–semantic processing of the selected paradigmatic (lexical) structures – the lexical relations of hyperonymy/hyponymy – and the lexical decision. The study was conducted both on healthy subjects and patients with left and right medial temporal lobe epilepsy. The intention was to examine the existence of neuroanatomical correlates specific to lexical–semantic processing connected to a functional– anatomic lesion of the medial temporal lobe as well as the specific lexical–semantic reorganization concerning the hemispheric differences. The results of the experiment have indicated distinctions between the different levels of lexical–semantic processing. The results have also confirmed that the lesion of the left medial temporal lobe affects the lexical–semantic processing of paradigmatic relations. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the medial structure of the left temporal lobe has a significant role in information retrieval in relation to specific features (or a set of features) important for defining concepts and distinguishing them from other concepts.
