Summary/Abstract: The collapse of communism in 1989 allowed Czesław Miłosz to return to Poland, which was then regaining independence. For his place of residence the poet chose Kraków, which reminded him of his youth, the time when he was a schoolboy and a student in the small, provincial Vilnius.
