Summary/Abstract: For an unrecognised state, like Abkhazia – the breakaway region in Georgia – any recognition of their independence is important. This is true especially in the case of Abkhazian sport. While not many official international leagues allow an Abkhazian team, the few that do, have found that recognition is more than just symbolic.
