Summary/Abstract: The theory that we shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on the link between environmental governance and strategic business management, the political underlying forces of private and market-based environmental governance proposals, the controversy over the authority and legitimacy of developing types of transnational governance, the causes and effects of international environmental change, and the domestic consequences of worldwide environmental governance. The aim of the present study is to examine and evaluate the authority, legitimacy, and responsibility of private participants in global environmental governance, the involvement in and configuration of private governance processes, the decentralization of global governance throughout public and private entities, and the mechanisms of particular and formal global environmental governance strategies.
