Summary/Abstract: Since 2002, the first time in human history, information numerically, have taken precedence over analog methods of storage and processing. Although never been faster, the pace of technological development has started to lose pace with increasingly demanding needs of preserving the digital heritage. Previous generations have our collective memory sculpted in stone imprinted in clay or written by papyrus. Preserving the sequence of bits is a much bigger challenge. The absence of definitely strategies and lasting technological solutions already led to the disappearance of a significant number documents. For now, the only effective approach is in regular migration datathe newer media, and their adjustment current software.
