Summary/Abstract: This article reexamines Edward Abbey's vision of wilderness, as presented primarily in Desert Solitaire and The Journey Home, by showing that the writer's definition of wilderness is more complex than is widely known, and that it encompasses the ungraspable as well as phenomena usually not associated with nature.
