Summary/Abstract: The report examines the theoretical aspects of the issues related to the regional development as well as the concepts and the terminology used in research papers and documents concerning the regional development of the region of Plovdiv. The used comparative analysis is in line with the regional issues and to a large extent reflects the problems of the region in purely spatial plan while focusing on the problems of the infrastructure and environment in the direction of faster regional development. In practice, the report may be relevant for the future actions in the management of the funds allocated under the EU programs over the next four years with regards to the regional development and the opportunities rapid economic development in the period 2014-2020.
