THE SACRED ART, MIRROR OF THE WORD

Summary/Abstract: The Sacred Art, mirror of the Word. Word and image are two different ways of communication, yet they are very dependent and close to each other. The word itself must have the power to illustrate and to create an image, as much as the image can be put into words. The beauty of the two ways of expression consists in the fact that they are both made out of lines. The connection between the religious image or the icon and the theological message that it conveys is something that needs to be regained in our times, in order to avoid the danger of a very tempting mannerism, which is the bare imitation of the art of other centuries.
