Summary/Abstract: The paper presents Catholic education as an integral component of Church’s evangelization mission which must be pursued in a manner that presupposes Catholic identity. So the author discusses Catholic identity in the context of Tangaza University College as it transits to becoming a fully fledged Catholic university. Several key issues are featured which include the basic understanding of the terms Catholic and Catholicity and situating Catholic identity in ecclesiastical context. There is also a presentation of Tangaza University College in her history and identity. This article also investigates the application of civil legislations in the Republic of Kenya in establishing a university as well as the application of ecclesiastical laws in a Catholic university. The discussion also features the challenges involved in pursuing Catholic identity in a Catholic university.
