Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the roots of current refugee and economic migration to the European Union and recommends long-term solutions, including developmental aid; against this background the European Union’s reaction is examined. The objective is to point to the significance of long-term solutions to the problem of migrants and refugees, reiterating such key issues as launching economic reconstruction and ensuring security in the countries of origin.
