Summary/Abstract: Due to many historical and social instances such as conflict, strife, war and nationalism during the last couple of decades, the state of science an generale in Serbia (adjacent ex-Yugoslav countries as well) has suffered much. Some linguistical ideas and analyses have seemingly not reached the official Serb linguistic core (concentrated around the Universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš, as well as the Serb Academy of Sciences and Arts), even though they were published and examined several decades ago. This article will debate the current state of prosody in the Serbian version of the polycentric standardized Serbo-Croatian language, namely, the accentual quality and quantity and post-accentual vowel length from the point of view of prosody, semantics and pragmatics.
