Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the state of the Bulgarian science in the study of migrations performed by the population inhabiting the Bulgarian lands during the period from 18th to the middle of the 20th century. It outlines the main stages in the dynamics of this type of research and the main thematic areas on which concentrated previous researchers on this issue. Based on our analysis unexplored and poorly studied problems are established and the main tasks facing future researchers in the field of migration movements are formulated.
