Summary/Abstract: The analysis of onomastic units is presented in the article. Existence of such onomastic units speaks of the presence of the Baltic-Finnish and Sami population in Karelia. Such namings appear in business written monuments of the pre-national period ofKarelia. They are marked by formal (phonetic, structural) and genetic markers. The reason conditioning a rather low percentage ofsuch namings’ circulation in the regional documents is explained. The specificity of interaction of the Baltic-Finnish names withthe Russian anthroponymic system is described. Such interaction found its reflection in the emergence of multiple hybrid modelsand formulas for persons’ nomination and in the regularity of using and transforming the Russified “onomasticon” of the non-Slavicsociety. It is supposed that there is a possibility of using “onyms” with Baltic-Finnish markers by Russian and Ugro-Finnish ethnicgroups. The areal aspect of the research of these units is presented.
