POLITICAL EDUCATION OF WRITERS AND THEATRICAL INTELLIGENTZIA OF KARELIA DURING THE PERIOD OF “KHRUSHCHEV’S THAW”

Summary/Abstract: On the basis of archival sources the forms and methods of attracting creative intelligentzia of Karelia to the ideological studies inthe middle of the 1950s and the first half of the 1960-ies are studied. The reasons, which caused Karelian writers and actors to avoidpolitical education, are analyzed. The crisis of political education was caused by the rejection of traditional methods of politicaleducation and by the unwillingness of the existing political system to allow new forms of political education. The article concludesthat the failure of Karelian party leadership to compromise with the representatives of republican intelligentzia became one of thereasons causing a decrease in the role of local intelligentzia as an ideological assistant of the party.
