Awareness of the necessity of retirement planning

Summary/Abstract: Demographic changes in many developed countries have led to current pension systems based on solidarity between generations becoming ineffective. Increasingly, mandatory systems maintained by the state provide basic retirement allowance covering only the minimal consumption needs. Retirement planning has increasingly become a concern in many households. It requires well-informed and deliberate decision-making on how to create a financial plan and knowledge about saving and investing. This article deals with the issue of public awareness in the realisation of retirement goals. The objective of this study will be achieved by the analysis of literature and of the results of surveys conducted in households.
