Summary/Abstract: In the article, the author touches on the problem of the rapid and dramatic expansion of information, drawing attention to the huge importance of organisation and self-awareness in science – especially in disciplines that are wide-ranging or interdisciplinary, both in traditional and new disciplines. What creates and binds disciplines is their language. The author uses the example of the cognitive sciences to demonstrate the need to remain attentive to this fact, and presents an exploratory study of a corpus of articles from Polish cognitive science journals conducted using the methods of the digital humanities (computerized statistical analysis) with the aim of searching for collocations and comparing the results with current knowledge within the discipline.
