Summary/Abstract: The starting point for the article is a review of Rose Braidotti’s latest book The Posthuman, which has been expanded to include a review of other publications in the posthumanitites. I have chosen this as supplementary material for an outline of posthumanism as not only a newly established branch of scientific knowledge, but also as a political stance towards the world of nature and a vital part of contemporary culture. By reading Braidotti alongside Nicole Shukin, Mel Y. Chen, and Elisabeth Povinelli, we situate posthumanist discourse in the context of contemporary biopolitical and necropolitical processes for managing life and death, and the construction and materiality of such categories as race and class.
